I ran into a cousin of mine last year who had clearly lost a ton of weight and she looked fantastic. She volunteered that she’d had gastric sleeve surgery the previous year, and that really got me thinking.
See, I’ve been considering weight loss surgery for about 8-10 years. Back then, the most popular surgery seemed to be bypass, and I just couldn’t get over the thought of all that change to my organs. The thought of that surgery really intimidated me.
But when I heard about gastric sleeve, that seemed less radical and more doable. I still had to take a few months to think about it and get past the thought of cutting out 85% of a healthy organ, but eventually it all came together for me.
I want this surgery for real now, and the money is finally the only thing standing in the way. The surgeon I’m probably going to use offers financing, and I just filled out their cute little payment calculator. It seems I qualify to pay them hundreds of dollars a month. Lucky me!
I see the surgeon for the first time on Tuesday. He’s supposed to be a really nice guy, so I don’t anticipate him being a jerk or looking down on me for being fat. I plan to ask him about his complication and leak rates, but is there anything else I should ask? Anything I should be on the lookout for? Any tips for me?
